A tribute was paid in Noyemberyan in memory of the policemen killed on May 6, 1991

For 30 years, this day: May 6, has been a day of heroism and pain for the people of the Noyemberyan Community.

The residents of the Noyemberyan community pay a tribute in the memory of the policemen killed during the operation “Koltso” organized by the Soviet Union and the Omon members of Soviet Azerbaijan in 1991.

On the morning of May 6, 1991, in the forest near Voskepar, 24 policemen from Noyemberyan were trapped by the Soviet army and the Azerbaijan omon. This is perhaps one of the most tragic episodes of the Artsakh liberation war.

Late in the evening of May 5, the department of internal affairs of Noyemberyan received a call that the Azeris went across the border and were moving toward Voskepar. The group of policemen went by bus and “Niva” to protect the peaceful population of the village. They went through the mountains as the way to the village was being bombarded by the Azeris. Before getting to the village, the Soviet soldiers suddenly appeared and started shooting. The notorious Koltso operation was in progress … 11 policemen died, the others were taken as prisoners, and three policemen died in the Azerbaijani prisons. Hours after the incident, Soviet soldiers fraudulently disarmed and captured 45 policemen and again gave them over to the Azeri Omanis.
