“Green and Resilient Tavush” coalition between Tavush Media and the NGOs of the region
At the beginning of the year, Emergency Channel Information NGO announced the formation of a coalition entitled “Green and Resilient Tavush” offering its cooperation and information channels to partner NGOs working in Tavush; in favor of strengthening democracy in the region, create a community with high civic self-awareness and active role in community life. Online discussions were organized, and the proposals found their place in an open announcement.
On April 20, the signing ceremony of the coalition document took place in Ijevan. President of “Emergency Channel” Informative NGO and Tavush Media Board Chairman Nikolay Grigoryan presented the mission and activities of the Emergency Channel.
In 2019 the Emergency Channel started its activities in Tavush region, implementing the Resilient Tavush Program for awareness-education-training of local self-government bodies and the broadest sections of the population, children; as well as to ensure information security, media literacy, and access to information in the most remote border communities.
In 2020 Tavush regional TV channel started broadcasting, the Tavush media website launched, and regional radio broadcasting and the center for young journalists are planned.
The purpose of forming a coalition is: to use Tavush media information platforms to strengthen and form democracy in the region; to educate citizens who will have high self-consciousness and play an active role in public life.
The representatives of non-governmental organizations presented their opinions and observations on the activities of Tavush Media. The opinions and offers changed into pleasant wishes, as it was also the 2nd anniversary of Tavush TV.
The invitation to form a resilient and green Tavush coalition is open to all the organizations operating in the region.

With this letter, Emergency Channel Information NGO announces the creation of a coalition, entitled “Green and Resilient Tavush”, offering its partner non-governmental organizations to use Tavush media information platforms to strengthen and form democracy in the region, to educate citizens, who will have high self-consciousness, and play an active role in public life.
The need to form a coalition in the context of the geopolitical and civic development of the country: considering all the challenges faced by the country at this stage of the development; related to devaluation of democratic values, fundamental human rights, including restrictions on freedom of speech and press; highly appreciating the need to build platforms of public solidarity, cooperation between different segments of society, and constructive dialogue; recognizing the respect and protection of the fundamental human rights and freedoms enriched by the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia; taking into account natural, man-made, social, epidemic, environmental, civil defense threats and awareness of local self-government bodies, population in the management of their risks, the readiness and resilience of schools, prevention and safety green culture education, valuing the improvement of the moral and psychological atmosphere of the region, vitality and optimism, injecting hope and will to live, involving teenagers and young people, educating an active citizen, encouraging civic activism, presenting success stories of various spheres, bringing human and family story-plots back to everyday life, especially to instill love for the homeland for both the whole country and the border region, encouraging with dedicated and purposeful, successful and happy people; making public the example of the one who reaps from the land, the one who squeezes bread from the stone, the people who have achieved prosperity, success and achievements through their mind and work; increasing the rate; forming literate, productive, knowledge-based respect; introduction of business success formulas; interest and involvement; making people self-confident and making them believe in their power and future; Emergency Channel Information NGO invites to join “Green and Resilient Tavush” coalition ready to invest its resources and information channels, as well as potential and expertise.

For 25 years, the Emergency Channel Information NGO has been informing people about emergencies and risks threatening them, the plans and programs of governmental bodies, the rules of conduct of the population through television, radio, print media, social networks, direct discussions, and other means, providing reliable, continuous, necessary and useful information aiming at raising awareness, preparedness, and protection (including moral and psychological), ensuring their involvement.

Emergency Channel Information NGO in Tavush
In 2019 the Emergency Channel started its activities in Tavush Region, implementing the Resilient Tavush Program for awareness-education-training of local self-government bodies and the broadest sections of the population, children, as well as to ensure information security, media literacy, and access to information in the most remote border communities.
Emergency Channel Information NGO took over the responsibility; Tavush regional TV channel started broadcasting and the Tavush media website launched in 2020, and regional radio broadcasting and the center for young journalists are planned.
In other words, a common information platform has been created, where issues of active citizenship, democratic values, human rights, community issues, and other problems of the region will be considered and discussed, carrying out active involvement of civil society. Now Tavush TV is broadcasted not only in Tavush Region but also on Ucom, Rostelecom, and cable TV channels.
The main directions of the “Green and Resilient Tavush” coalition are:
- To form an involved, courageous, initiator, controlling, demanding, patriotic citizen and society.
- To foster the spread of local democracy and universal and civic values.
- To create platforms where policymakers, non-governmental organizations, media representatives, as well as the citizens can engage in dialogue, speaking up about the community problems and public importance.
- To promote the transparent and accountable work of state and local self-government bodies.
- To develop the ability of citizens to exercise public control for the effective management of public funds and the prevention of corruption purposes.
- To promote public participation in the decision-making process at the local levels.
- To contribute to the impeded realization of fundamental human rights and freedoms.
- To develop respect for freedom of speech and thought, free expression of will, pluralism, and curbing the spread of hate speech.
- To spread peacebuilding values and culture.
- To curb the spread of fake information and stories by developing the level of media literacy of different segments of society.
- To promote free, fair, transparent elections by conducting observation missions and raising public awareness of the Electoral Code.
- To strengthen information capacities of Tavush Region.
- To raise the level of public awareness and media literacy.
- To increase access to media in remote border communities.
- To increase the involvement of youth and teenagers in the social, economic, and political life of the region.
- To create a platform for dialogue and feedback between Emergency Channel and local NGOs, youth and women’s organizations, and residents of border communities.
- To raise public awareness, preparedness, and resilience on security issues.
- To foster the development of inclusive Tavush by contributing to the solutions of the problems of vulnerable groups and the disabled.
- To raise public awareness of the NGOs operating in Tavush Region through publicity and advocacy for their work.
