Holy Cross Day: Divine liturgy at St. Hovhannes church in Aygdzor

On the occasion of the Holy Cross Day, a Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the St. John Church in Aygdzor. The service was conducted by the village’s spiritual shepherd, Father Barsegh Mkrtchyan.
Holy Cross Day is the last of the five great feasts of the Armenian Apostolic Church. It symbolizes the glorification of the Lord’s Cross and reminds believers that the cross, once a sign of suffering and death, has been transformed into a symbol of victory, life, and salvation.
After the liturgy, the faithful took home blessed branches of basil. Traditionally associated with the story of the discovery of the cross, basil reminds believers of the life-giving power of the Lord’s cross and symbolizes the fragrance of prayer and purity in the Christian’s life.
