Important conversations about hope, will, and action. On November 22, a community event in the format of TED talks was organized at YSU Ijevan branch. Such an event is being organized for the 2nd time within the framework of the activity of the “American Library and Training Center.”

During their speeches, the speakers of the event addressed mainly 2 topics, talking about the importance of social inclusion and equality and the importance of individual initiative.

Accomplished people who have faced difficulties in life and have great public recognition were invited. The speakers were Ladislav Beraneck, Gevorg Simonyan, Narine Grigoryan, Sargis Stepanyan, and Sirarpi Mughdusyan.

YSU IB students also attended the meeting and addressed their questions to the speakers. At the end of the event, certificates of appreciation were given to the speakers.






Small agricultural machinery was provided to the farmers of Ijevan and Berd communities

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations continues to support Armenian families with funding from the European Union. On December 2, small agricultural machinery was provided to the economic entities of 25 settlements of Ijevan and Berd communities of Tavush marz, who are involved in local active groups.Equipment provided includes two-wheel tractors, tillers, rotary mowers, electric sprayers, diesel generators and welding equipment.

The support was provided within the framework of the “Empowerment of local actors for development in Lori and Tavush regions” project, which is financed by the European Union and jointly with the United Nations Development Program. The support is aimed at increasing the resilience of small farmers.

The project is implemented in Tavush and Lori regions as part of the concept of community-led local development and aims to actively involve local authorities and the population in development processes by creating infrastructures supporting local development and improving the capacities of relevant ministries and agencies.






“Problems of organizing intra-community transport in the context of community enlargement.” Roundtable Discussion

“Civic Youth Center” community development NGO conducted an online survey among the residents of the community in the framework of the project aimed at improving intra-community public transport of the enlarged Ijevan community. The goal was to study the quality of intra-community transport services operating in the Ijevan community to raise the public opinion of the residents. About 600 residents of Ijevan city and settlements participated in the online survey.

On November 8, a roundtable discussion entitled “Problems of organizing intra-community transport in the context of community enlargement” was held. At the beginning of the discussion, the head of “Civic Youth Center” NGO, Arpine Yeritsyan presented the summary of the conducted survey and studies. According to her, intra-community transport is one of the priority challenges of the enlarged community.

The interested and concerned parties of the problem took part in the discussion: students, young people, the representatives of civic society, and the deputy head of the Ijevan Community were also present.






The Mayor and the Delegation of Valence visited the “sister city” of Ijevan

The cooperation between the cities of Ijevan and Valence started in 1996. At that time, the city of Ijevan of Tavush region and the city of Valence of France were declared sister cities.

As a sign of many years of friendship and cooperation, on October 10, the Mayor of Valance, Nicolas Daragon, and his delegation were in Ijevan.

Greeting the governor of the region and the mayor of Ijevan, Nicolas Daragon, mentioned that after touring Ijevan, they also decided to visit the Ijevan Branch of Yerevan State University.

Emphasizing cultural cooperation, Levon Chatikyan, the founder of the Valence Song and Dance Academy, says that he has been cooperating with various conservatories and Music schools for more than ten years.
According to Valence Deputy Gevorg Rasklinyan, it is exciting to reach Ijevan and hear French at the state university.

Nicolas Daragon emphasized that they want to draw the world’s attention to the Republic of Armenia with this visit, to stand with Armenia in these difficult days, stating that France is always by the side of the Armenian people.

Fire at one of Ijevan gas stations. There are casualties

On September 3, at 3:47 pm, the Regional Crisis Management Center of Tavush was alerted that a fire broke out at the gas station located on Yerevanyan street in Ijevan.

Three combat units from the fire-rescue squad of the Regional Rescue Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations went to the scene of the incident.

It was found out that the fire broke out in the guard post of the gas station located at 55/3 Yerevanyan street.
Before rescuers reached the place, G. D. (born in 1962), H. G. (born in 1959), M. G. (born in 1980), and A. Gh. (born in 1980) were hospitalized in Ijevan Medical Center, where the doctors assessed their health condition as serious. Then the casualties were transferred to National Burn Center CJSC in Yerevan city.

The fire was contained at 4:40 pm and extinguished at 5:45 pm. The guard post (about 50 square meters) was burnt with its property.

Open class-meeting. Ahead of the 2022-2023 academic year the Real School is starting in Ijevan

Ahead of the 2022-2023 academic year, the Real School project is starting for the first time in Tavush region.

The school activities start in Ijevan, the center of the region. On August 12, an open class meeting was held; during which all the interested people had the opportunity to get acquainted with the structure, goal, ideas, and implemented and to be implemented projects of the Real School.

In addition to presenting the school activities to the participants, the Real School developed several educational and cultural initiatives during the summer months in Ijevan.

The Real School project is implemented within the framework of the EU “Community Leaders for Economic Development” regional grant program. The main applicant of the project is the Municipality of Ijevan; which, in cooperation with the Association of Advanced Technology Entreprises (ATTE) and COWO community workplace, aims to develop a public-private partnership dialogue aimed at creating a sustainable ecosystem for the development of innovative entrepreneurship in tourism, high-value agriculture, and food processing.

The project offers advanced educational opportunities through the launch of the Real School and vocational trainings based on the project-based education model. The students of the Real School have the opportunity to receive vocational training through internships, work-based learning, and the development of soft and hard skills.






Heroes. Armen Sahakyan

The words “Prefect Exempla” are repeated in the words of the narrators about our today’s hero of the program “The Heroes,” captain Armen Sahakyan.

“When he was injured on October 16 and came, I told Armen to stay and get better at least for a couple of days, but he said no, and he said that there was nobody next to the soldiers, he couldn’t leave them, and went back, he stayed only one day.”

Armen Sahakyan was born on March 31, 1994, in Ijevan, Tavush region. He studied at Ijevan Secondary School N 3. Since 2002 he attended sports school for sambo courses.

In 2010 he was admitted to the Faculty of Science of the Ijevan branch of Yerevan State University free of charge. However, Armen decided to become an officer. In 2010 he got admitted to Vazgen Sargsyan Military University.
The education made him even more patriotic. After graduating from the university, he decided to serve in Jrakan. He served here for five years.

He participated in the 4-day April war and did not let his troops retreat from their positions.
In September 2019, he moved to Ijevan Military Unit N to be next to his family. Since September 30, he took part in Artsakh 44-day war.

Without hesitating, he left for Artsakh to protect the northern positions of Mataghis. For about a month, he protected the position with a strength worthy of a commander. On October 16, he received shrapnel injuries, but after the shrapnel was removed at the hospital, he returned to his position with his soldiers.

Armen Sahakyan was killed while protecting Drmbon, when he was hit by a drone on October 28.






Seminar in Ijevan on the topic “Local Self-government System in Armenia and Current Issues”

On July 30, the newly created “Dream Youth” NGO organized a seminar on the topic “Local Self-government System in Armenia and Current Issues” in Ijevan.

The workshop aimed at familiarizing the youth and NGOs with the structure and functions of the local self-government system, studying and highlighting the problems the local self-government systems face, and suggesting possible solutions.

“The workshop gives an opportunity to familiarize with the current systems, to get more knowledge and use it later to develop the communities,” Edita Ellaryan.

The seminar was conducted by Davit Khazhakyan, a member of the Bright Armenia Party Management Board, the Yerevan Council of Elders, and the Council of Local Governments of the Council of Europe.

“We need to give wings to the youth to have a flourishing society” is one of the slogans of the newly created organization.

The purpose of the “Dream Youth” NGO is: to create a platform for young people for self-discovery, development of abilities and skills, exchange of experience, environment protection, and management of natural resources. The organization is also ready to support the young people of the regions in developing and implementing their ideas.
