On August 27, at 00:33 local time (20:33 GMT on August 26), the Seismological Network of the Territorial Service for Seismic Protection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5. The quake occurred at a depth of 10 km, with geographic coordinates of 42.52°N latitude and 48.20°E longitude, 75 km southeast of the city of Makhachkala in the Russian Federation. The information was reported by the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In the epicentral zone, the underground shock reached a strength of 7–8 on the intensity scale. The earthquake was felt in several communities of Tavush Province with an intensity of 2–3.
