New focus on forest protection in Tavush province

A working group led by Vladimir Kirakosyan, Head of the Eco-Patrol Service of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia, paid a visit to Tavush Province to hold a series of meetings.

The visit began at the Tavush Regional Administration, where Vladimir Kirakosyan met with the regional governor. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued regular cooperation, highlighting the unique significance of Tavush’s forest resources, as a substantial portion of Armenia’s forested areas is located in this region. The discussions focused on strengthening regional structures, upgrading technical capacities, and developing new tools for improving environmental oversight systems.

During the visit, the Head of the Service also held meetings with the staff of the Eco-Patrol Service’s Tavush Regional Department, including the Dilijan National Park, as well as the Ijevan, Sevkar, and Artsvaberd subdivisions. The main emphasis of these meetings was on enhancing the effectiveness of forest and protected area conservation, prioritizing the prevention of illegal activities, ensuring zero tolerance for corruption, and promoting open communication with the public.

Kirakosyan noted that the protection of around 700,000 hectares requires serious responsibility and consistent daily work to pass on a healthy natural environment and rich biodiversity to future generations. The meetings were held in a Q&A format, during which existing problems were presented and potential solutions discussed.
