In 1139, in Tavush fortress, religious and secular men gathered to elect a new bishop of Aghvank. The long-awaited event took place in the magnificent palace of Tavush fortress. The lack of light was significant. it was necessary to dispel both spiritual and secular darkness.
It was easy to dispel the secular darkness, they just needed to set oil lamps in the palace. They placed the oil lamps in the caves of the hall. The light spread, illuminating the entire hall and the minds of the congregation. Grigoris B (1139-1145) was elected as the bishop of Aghvank.
Years passed. Along with other Armenian forts and fortresses, the Tavush fortress was also destroyed.
Many centuries later, olive lamps delight the viewer, illuminating the dark layers of multi-century history.
