On September 19–20, young correspondents from Tavush Media participated in a two-day workshop titled “Covering Community Activism and Countering False Narratives in the Media,” held in the village of Pokr Ayrum in Armenia’s Lori region.
The workshop was organized by the “Center for Community Mobilization and Support” NGO, bringing together journalists and youth correspondents from both regional and Yerevan-based media outlets.
Over the two days, participants discussed how the media shapes public perceptions of civic activism, the framing and terminology used to depict community initiatives, and strategies for shifting media focus from protest scenes to root causes, issues, and community context.
The workshop provided an opportunity to address a key question using new tools: how to cover community developments in a way that centers not just the conflict or protest, but its root causes, the real challenges faced by residents, and the voices that often go unheard in public discourse.
