On September 10 and 11, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to the Republic of Armenia Eva Sundenqvist was visiting the Tavush region. As part of her visit, the Ambassador held meetings with representatives of the regional authorities, local self-government bodies, and educational institutions.
The Ambassador also visited Tavush Media, where she met with the television company’s staff and learned about the media outlet’s activities, the challenges facing independent local media, and its ongoing initiatives.
During the meeting, Tavush Media presented its work in the Tavush region as an independent local media outlet serving the public interest. Particular attention was paid to the information needs of border communities, efforts to strengthen the resilience of residents and communities, counter disinformation, promote citizen engagement, and encourage youth participation.
Tavush Media staff emphasized that independent and reliable television is an important component of the resilience of a border region.
Ambassador Eva Sundenqvist, in turn, thanked the team for the warm welcome and highlighted the important role of local and independent media in Armenia. She stressed the significance of initiatives aimed at serving the public interest, promoting democratic values, increasing public awareness, and strengthening societal resilience.
The sides discussed issues of mutual interest, including potential joint programs between the Embassy and the television company in the areas of public awareness, climate change, and environmental protection.
